He finally caught sight of Moira again and followed. If she was working, she had an odd way of doing her job. She stopped to pet every dog that walked in her path. By the time he caught up with her, she was crouched on the ground nose to nose with a beast of an animal. The dog looked big enough that it could easily maul her, but she cooed and giggled when the thing licked her face.

Jimmy tucked his hands in his pockets and watched for a minute. Moira interacted with the dog like she’d found a long lost best friend. She laughed and played and looked completely out of place with all of the other women. She sighed and stood, taking a moment to brush dog hair off her dress.

When the dog walker moved on, he sidled up next to Moira and tried to hold on to his anger. If he let the gooey look on her face affect him, he’d be useless. “We need to talk.”

She looked up at him, using one hand to shield her eyes from the setting sun. “I thought we already did. Do you want to set up that interview now?” Her eyes held an evil glimmer, as if she knew what he’d said to Stan about the interview.

He grabbed her elbow and guided her away from the crowd, around the back of the tent that held the auction items. Fighting to keep his voice low, he said, “Why the hell would you tell everyone I have a wife?”

She eased her arm from his grasp and narrowed her eyes. He’d expected the sweet fuck-you smile she liked to throw out when she caused trouble. “You have no idea who you’re hanging out with, but I do. Those four are all married. They bring their wives to every function and event. Or I should say their wives bring them. They stand around and ogle every female in sight.”

“Yeah, I got that.”

“The thing is, if you want in, the wives are going to have to approve. The wives like Mayor Park since he’s such a good wholesome guy, so they’ll be inclined to accept you, but in their world, having a wife makes you safer.”

“Safer?”

“Less likely to bring a bunch of single women around, making it easier for their husbands to cheat.”

“They’re surrounded by women at these events.”

“I didn’t say it made sense. Their friendship extends beyond attending fund-raisers. The wives are here to keep an eye on them, but they don’t follow them everywhere. At least I don’t think they do.” She shifted so his shadow blocked the sun and looked up at his face. “I’m not trying to screw things up for you. Trust me. I understand these people.”

He believed her, but it didn’t make the truth any easier. “Where the hell am I supposed to get a wife?”

She huffed out a breath. “Am I supposed to do everything for you?”

Her irritation wouldn’t last. She had a hot temper, but once it blew, she went back to being sunny Moira. And she wasn’t even pissed right now, so when she turned to walk away, he followed.

He walked beside her, as if they were there together, which he knew he shouldn’t, but since she’d talked about interviewing him, he figured he could get away with it. She waved to various people and stopped to chat with others.

With Moira, though, it wasn’t bullshit small talk. She asked real questions. She knew details about people’s lives, and they respected her for it. They opened up around her, which would be a huge asset for her job. An asset he’d have to avoid.

When they were walking a stretch alone, he asked, “Why doesn’t it bother you?”

“What?”

“The way Stan Decker talks about you.” Remembering the comments made him angry again. “I know you heard him, but you acted like it was nothing.”

She shrugged. “Because it was nothing.”

He stopped and touched her arm to halt her. “That’s not true. No one should talk to you like that.”

“He wasn’t talking to me. It’s not his fault I have excellent hearing.”

Jimmy thought back. In truth, Stan had been respectful, at least in his words while talking to Moira. “He stares at your chest.”

She laughed so hard her shoulders shook. “Really?” She spread her hands in front of her chest. “He’s far from the only man to do that. It happens so often, it doesn’t faze me anymore.”

Jimmy made a point of looking into her bright blue eyes. No sign of anger or hurt. It would make him nuts if he saw men staring at his woman’s chest instead of her face.

But Moira’s not mine.

“Doesn’t make it right.”

I feel him kneel down until his face is close to mine. “Josh is my patient, Aria, and I take my job very seriously.” I turn back to him. There is something in his voice that compels me to. “But seeing you again…” He trails off, his eyes searching mine. “Is it too much if I say I’ve thought about you over the years? Wondered about you.” My breath hitches as his fingers come up, tracing the lines of my cheek until they’re diving through my hair, cupping the back of my head. I feel like I’m flying. The way he’s staring into me makes me feel weightless. “I know it’s been a long time, but it doesn’t feel that way, does it?” I shake my head, unable to verbalize just what this is. “It feels like you just climbed out of my bedroom window.”

“It does.” His thoughts echo mine from just a few hours ago. My voice is quiet, the sound getting absorbed into the din of Josh’s machines and hospital doings. His head dips down to catch my words, his face inches from mine now. His proximity is too much. I can’t stand it. I have no idea how to react to it.

“I can’t believe I’m seeing you again after all this time.”

I swallow so hard. He has no idea. He was my first everything. Including my first love. I’ve since compared every single man to him. Including Drew. Who also works in this hospital as a doctor. They probably know each other. I bet they do. Drew works in the emergency department and Wes is a trauma surgeon. That thought twists my stomach for some reason.

My eyes trail along the muscles of his arms. The sleeve of his scrub top looks like it could tear any moment. “You’re bigger than I remember,” I comment and then instantly cringe. Me and my mouth. I swear, it’s like it goes on total disconnect from my brain whenever I get nervous. He laughs, dropping his forehead to mine. And even though this should probably be considered weird or out of place, it’s not. It feels like the most natural thing in the world. Probably because he’s done it dozens of times before.

“Aria,” he whispers against me, his sweet breath tickling my lips. “Am I making you nervous?”

I both love and hate that he remembers my little quirk. But then again, I couldn’t shut up before he gave me that first ever kiss on my roof. Or while he was undressing me that first time months after that. And definitely not when he began to talk while he was first inside me. It’s amazing the guy stuck it out to the conclusion.

“Yes,” I admit. “You always have.”

“In a bad way?” Like he doesn’t know.

“In a good way. In a fun way.”

“A fun way.” He smirks, testing the words. “Is that all I am to you?”

“Well.” I laugh because I can’t help it. “Considering I haven’t seen you in a freaking decade, I can’t say what you are to me.”

Excerpt

Brogan had intentionally given me a glimpse into himself by expressing his feelings in words he’d never shared with another living soul. But in that moment, when his eyes met mine, he offered me something else.
Likely unaware he’d even done so. He gave me a piece of his vulnerability. His pain. A sliver of the hidden humiliation that
he kept buried beneath a painted canvas. Covered in graffiti. Locked behind years of loss and doubt. It crossed his brow in shallow valleys of hesitation and colored his cheeks in raw insecurity.

He was open. Closed off. Pushing me away while desperately trying to hold me close. It was too much to process at once, leaving me immobile, grounded in place. The only thing
I could do was open my mouth and give him honesty. “Your words…they make my chest hurt. As I read them, I breathed them in, and they burrowed themselves next to my heart. Took up residence within my lungs. They’re powerful enough to keep me safe, yet just as capable of destroying me.”

“Mercy…”

“They make my eyes burn. Every vowel, every period. Every syllable you wrote and verse you formed did something to me that I’ve never experienced. I’ve never read something so beautiful, something that literally brought tears to my eyes.”

“Mercy, that’s enough.” Beneath the stern tone and harsh shell lay a boy who couldn’t accept my praise. “I didn’t do it for compliments. You said you didn’t know me, so I’m showing you who I am. You think I’m using you to kill time until Jessica
comes back, and I’m trying to prove to you that I’m not. I don’t need your approval. I need you.”

Under his intense scrutiny, I became fully aware of my state of undress. “I’m, uh… I’m going to put on some pants.” I took a few steps backward, holding my shirt down in the front.

“Hey, Mercy? Could you do me a favor?” I stopped and held his stare.

“Next time you hang out with your ex, can you tell him that if he ever contacts me again, he’ll wish he’d never learned how to type? Thanks.”

“He did what? He texted you?”

He went right back to browning the meat, continuing as if he hadn’t just dropped a bomb at my feet. “Email, but yeah. Same thing. I think he got off on telling me that I’m runner-up. I guess you told him that you’re waiting to see if he lied about
where he was that night? And if he was telling the truth, you plan to get our marriage annulled?”

“He twisted what I said.”

“Then I guess it’s a good thing I didn’t give a shit what he had to say.” He moved the pan off the burner. “Although, I don’t think he liked it too much when I told him I hoped he enjoyed the taste of my cum, because I fucked your pussy so hard
and so deep it’ll be a while before it’s all out.”

I was shocked. And mortified. And incredibly turned on by his possessiveness.“Did you really?”

His smile became visible in his eyes first, but half a second later, it was drawn across his face.

A romance author, a cover model, a book signing...a crush.

Ordinary women like me know we shouldn't fall for beautiful men like Travis Zehler, one of the hottest cover models in romance fiction. But sometimes we can’t help ourselves.

When I meet him at a book signing, my attraction to him is instant. I'm infatuated, and I can't stop thinking about him.

Even though I have doubts he’d ever be interested, I invite Travis to attend a book signing with me. And he says yes.

My fantasy comes true when he takes me to his bed, and the more time we spend together, the more I see that Travis isn’t some object to be desired.

He’s a man with a past. A man who’s been burned. A man who’s learned to keep his guard up.

I want to show him he can trust again, but when our confidence in each other is shaken, I began to wonder if happily ever afters are only for my romance novels.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Travis looked away from his phone as he heard Sydney move on the bed. She rolled toward him and put her head on his shoulder. Her brown hair was messy, and her eyes were puffy from sleep.

He thought she looked adorable.

“Mmm … good morning,” she said, her voice hoarse from sleep.

“Good morning.” He kissed her forehead and slid an arm under her head.

She brushed her hand down his chest and abdomen and back up. “Mmm … it’s been a long time since I woke up to a man in my bed.”

“Are you forgetting last weekend?”

She smiled up at him, her eyes half-closed. “That was the hotel bed. I’m talking about my bed.”

“Ah … got it. And I’m glad I could break your dry spell.”

She looked to his phone, which he was holding up. “What are you doing?”

“Just scrolling through Instagram.”

She continued to rub his torso. “That’s your app of choice, isn’t it?”

“Yeah. I used to be on Facebook, but it got to be too much. My personal page, my professional page, groups …”

“I forget how young you are sometimes.”

He wrinkled his forehead. “I’m not that young.”

She kissed his chest and smiled. “Young enough that you’re in the group of twenty-something-year-olds that make me feel old for using Facebook.”

“I never said you were old.”

She laughed. “I know. You should hear my niece.”

Travis smiled. “I can imagine.” He opened up his messages and scanned through them. At the same time, he noticed that Sydney looked away. He assumed it was to respect his privacy.

The woman was a keeper.

He went through them, saving some to reply to later and replying to a few right away. “Oh my God.” The next one he hadn’t been prepared for. He should have been, but those kinds of messages still surprised him every time.

Of course, Sydney looked up at his exclamation.

His first instinct was to hide the image on his phone, but he was innocent.

“Is that … hold on.” She reached over and put her glasses on. “Holy crap.” She burst out laughing. “Those are some huge boobs.” She grabbed his cell out of his hand and zoomed in and out. “Wow. Those babies are impressive.” She handed him back his phone. “Do you know who sent the pic?”

Travis just stared at Sydney. She’d laughed. She hadn’t gotten mad or upset. She thought it was funny.

He cleared his throat. “Uh, no. It’s some random fan.”

“You, too, huh?”

“What do you mean, you, too?”

She rolled her eyes. “I’ve gotten my fair share of dick pics.”

“You have?” He was surprised.

“Yeah. I guess it’s because I write romance. Apparently, the conclusion is, I write about sex, so I must want pictures of strangers’ dicks. When are men going to learn that women don’t ever want that, and if they do, they’ll ask for it?”

Travis laughed. “Do you keep any of them?”

She looked away from him. “Do you?”

“Don’t judge, but sometimes, I show some of my friends before I delete them.”

“You perv. I can’t believe you,” she said, her voice full of sarcasm.

Travis’s eyes widened. “You do it, too.”

“Duh. Of course.”

“So, do you have any on your phone right now?”

“Uh … no.” She looked up at the ceiling.

“You liar.”

“Okay, I have one because I’ve never seen anything like it.”

He made a come-here motion. “Show me.”

“Okay. But it’s your turn not to judge me.” She grabbed her phone from her nightstand, did a couple of moves on her phone, and passed it over to him.

“Holy shit.” He reached down and cupped his dick.

“Right? It’s a Jacob’s Ladder. Ribbed … for her pleasure.” Sydney laughed at her joke.

He was horrified. “That looks so painful.”

“I suppose it is.”

She took her phone back. “I’ve always thought it would be cool to have sex with a guy with a penis piercing, but this is just too much.”

This caught his attention. “You want to have sex with a guy with a penis piercing?”

“Technically, I said it’d be cool. I want to know if it feels good or if it feels weird.”

Travis took her phone out of her hand and threw it on the bed as he rolled Sydney under him. “How about I show you what feels good right now?”

She grinned up at him and spread her thighs.

Travis pushed into her, groaning at the sensation of her wet, slick heat surrounding him.

He kissed her neck and drove into her over and over. Sydney moaned as she lifted both legs and sank her nails into his back. He thrust into her until he brought them both to completion, whereupon he collapsed on top of her.

He quickly fell to her side, so he didn’t suffocate her and pulled her against him.

“Feel good?” he asked.

“Yeah,” she said, panting on his chest.

“And I did it all without a cock piercing.”

Sydney laughed and kissed his sweaty chest. “What are you doing today?”

“I’m hoping you have a gym nearby I can go to.”

“You can go to mine. Do you go every day?”

“Yep. I might take a day off, but it’s usually only once a week. Or, if I can’t go, I do something else to get exercise in.”

She groaned.

“What? You don’t go every day?”

“Hell no. I do four days a week.” She looked up at him. “Does this mean you’re going to break it off with me?” Her eyes widened, and she shook her head. “There I go again, opening my big mouth. And, this morning, I can’t even blame the wine.” She got up on an elbow. “Feel free to ignore me.”

Travis laughed. He liked that she saw them together. The best part was, he wasn’t scared, nor did he feel the need to push her away.

He pulled her back down. “I’ll forget what you said if you go work out with me.”

She rolled away and jumped up from the bed.

He sucked in a breath at her sexy, naked body.

“I take it back,” she said as she walked toward her bathroom. “You can remember me sticking my foot in my mouth.”

Travis laughed.

Five minutes later, he joined her in the shower.

An hour later, she joined him at the gym.

Two hours later, they met up in the shower again.

EXCERPT:

As Violet neared, Andre’s jaw clenched as he drank in her sexy curves, her long black hair lifting in the breeze with each determined step. He didn’t trust himself not to give her hell for the way she’d left him without a trace. He had to get out of there before he said something he’d regret, but her green catlike eyes pierced his barriers, pinning him in place. Sweet Jesus, you still hold all the strings.
Violet stopped beside Chloe, her jaw tight, her eyes a mix of determination and vulnerability.
“Vi, have you met—”
Violet put her hand up. “Stop talking.” Her eyes narrowed, still locked on Andre as she said, “Tell me you’re not fucking my mother.”
“Whoa,” Gavin said. “Okay, ladies, that’s our cue to get out of here.”
“Are you kidding?” Emery complained.
“No.” Gavin mumbled, “Good luck, dude.” Then he dragged the girls away.
Andre wasn’t about to satisfy the plea in Violet’s eyes. He glanced at Gavin and the girls, who had joined the rest of their friends but still had their eyes on him and Violet.
“Are you screwing Lizza?” Violet demanded.
He slid his hands into the pockets of his slacks as if his heart weren’t hammering against his ribs and said, “Patience was never your strong suit.”
She huffed out a breath and crossed her arms. “Are you?”
He stepped closer, catching a whiff of jasmine. How many times had he smelled that scent in the last two years and caught himself looking around for her?
Too damn many.
“Maybe you’d like to start over with something like, ‘Hello, Andre. I’m sorry I disappeared in the middle of the night and never thought to let you know I was still alive, much less why I left.’”
She pressed her lips together, sadness washing over her face for the briefest of seconds, softening his resolve a little. She lifted her chin as she said, “I asked you a question. Are you screwing my mother?”

Exclusive Excerpt:

It feels like this is a make or break moment. If I take his hand, I’ll be following him toward something that I can never take back. This isn’t just some wild oat sowing. This isn’t some one-time experiment. I can see it in his hungry gaze, this is something he wants, something he will always want. This isn’t just a birthday gift, this is going to open the door and I’m not sure I want what’s waiting on the other side.

I reach for him, my fingers touching his and I take one step toward him before my legs lock, refusing to move any farther. He frowns slightly, tugging me gently toward him, but I don’t budge, I can’t. I shake my head, almost violently.

“Esther,” Raff growls. “Don’t do this. I won’t do anything you won’t like,” he promises.

My eyes focus on his and I shake my head. “I love you, Raff.”

Turning from him, I run back to my car. With tears streaming down my face I shift the car into reverse and I drive away from him.

He doesn’t follow.

He doesn’t chase after me or try to bring me back to the party.

He lets me go.

He just lets me drive away.

About Inciting a Riot:

Cary “Vamp” Sullivan earned his Riot MC patch and shoved Lorraine Francis Ingram out of his life six years ago by cheating on her. When he runs into her unexpectedly and finds out she has been beaten at the hands of a man, Vamp and his Riot MC Brothers are determined to protect her. Vamp is determined to get her back in his life, and he knows it’s going to be an uphill battle.

Lorraine insists that if any Riot MC Brother is going to protect her, it cannot be Vamp. She gets no promises from the Riot MC, and she finds herself with Vamp at her doorstep. She’s determined there will be no second chances, but her resolve is weakened because Vamp isn’t playing fair, he’s fighting…fighting to win her over.

Once she and Vamp are reunited again, they realize there is a very real threat to them both. Lorraine and Vamp are put to the test to rekindle their long lost love and stay alive.

Exclusive Excerpt:

I started to speak, but Vamp got there before me. “There is no ‘someone else’ to follow you to your office. I’m takin’ care of this shit.”

That statement threw me off my impending rant. “Excuse me?” I asked reflexively.

“Ain’t speakin’ Swahili, baby. I’m taking care of this shit. All of it. You may not have kissed me back like you used to do, but I could feel you holdin’ back on me. You want this. You think about me. I fucked up. I’m sorry about that. I need to earn your respect again. I’m gonna do everything I fuckin’ can to get that respect back. Once that’s done, I’m gonna convince you to give us a second chance. We owe that to each other. I fucked up, but don’t add to my fuck-up by turnin’ a cold shoulder on all that we once were, and all that we could have in the future.”

I closed my eyes in a long blink. It was an attempt at stalling and keeping my cool. Opening my eyes, I said, “One kiss does not mean anything. How about I take care of my own shit?”

Vamp moved closer to me, so there were only four inches separating us. “I am taking care of it. It’s not your shit to take care of any more, baby. This asshole is gonna learn not to fuck with you or any other woman. Your hot water heater is going to get upgraded and upgraded today. Now, you gonna be stuck in that stuffy-ass headquarters building all day or what?”

I wanted to argue with him. I wanted to throw down my best attitude and put him in his place, but I knew that would only result in him taking my mouth again. I may not have kissed him back, but he was right. I was holding back, and my hold was no more than a thin thread. He wants a second chance! That silly wayward thought made a spark of hope flare inside me. I couldn’t let that spark catch fire, though. I knew about him and I had to protect myself from his brand of heartbreak.
